Microblading is a beauty trend that has gained traction in the last decade and made way for many of its kind. Today, everyone has great eyebrows. Some are born with them, and others got them with the help of semi-permanent makeup, the most common one being microblading. Don’t let the word microblading on random building fronts fool you though. To get amazing brows, it’s also necessary to be in the safe hands of experienced experts. The training and license are of the essence, not just for an immaculate procedure itself but also for the knowledge imparted about aftercare. There are a lot of myths and misinformation spread around about the aftercare procedure of microblading.
Some hearsay has spread so far and wide, that it’s bordering on ridiculous. Do you know that many people think they can’t shower after undergoing a microblading procedure? That is not true. Of course, you can take a shower after getting semi-permanent eyebrows, it’s just that you have to be careful not to get the brows wet. And the rules don’t apply once the brows are completely healed and set. Let’s dispel the myths and learn proper ways to take a shower in the weeks following a fresh procedure:
What is Microblading?
Microblading is a semi-permanent makeup procedure that places pigmented hair strokes on your brows, giving it definition and a fuller appearance. The process takes 2 to 6 hours and is painless when numbing cream is applied before the procedure. It requires training, licensing, steady hands, and a great sagacity to perform this procedure. If you want amazing results, make sure to do your research and only go to a well-reputed salon in your city. Ask for their credentials if you need to. This semi-permanent procedure can last for a year without any touch-ups. You can extend the life of your brows for more than a year by getting touch-ups once they start to fade. 0
Can You Shower After Microblading?
The answer is a resounding yes.
If you have heard otherwise, it’s misinformation that stemmed from another set of details. Most semi-permanent procedures have two types of aftercare involved. They are categorized as dry healing and wet healing. Here’s what each of them entails:
-
Dry Healing
Dry healing requires leaving the brows far away from any sort of moisture. Be it water, sweat, skin care products, etc. You might be provided with an ointment to expedite the healing process, but that’s the extent of it. Nothing else touches your brows while it is healing.
-
Wet Healing
In the wet healing method, your PMU artist would ask you to gently wash your brows with soap and water, preferably twice a day. Nothing fancy or extravagant needs to go on your brows. Just an antibacterial soap, and regular water. If the soap is scentless, even better. Again, an ointment might be prescribed to you for applying after the brows are clean and dry. However, it should be noted that wet healing doesn’t allow it to be washed with a full flow of water, such as in a shower. Neither should it be exposed to shampoo, suds, chemical products, skincare products, sweat, chlorinated water, etc.
How To Shower After Microblading Without Getting the Eyebrows Wet?
You have to make a conscious effort to keep your brows dry after the procedure, or only wash it gently with soap and water. That doesn’t mean you can’t take a bath. You just have to be creative with it. Fortunately, there are several methods and techniques you can use to shower every day, without getting your brows wet. Here are a few useful tips for showering after microblading:
-
Avoid Extreme Temperatures:
This tip is for those who are going through wet healing. Water that is too hot or too cold can damage your procedure and set back your progress. Showering with really hot water can cause the pigment to fade, resulting in subpar results. Showering with really cold water for an extended period will also damage the pigment once the normal blood flow returns to your body. Avoid washing your hair with shampoo for a while until your brows are completely healed. Until then, dry shampoo for the win.
-
Sun Visor
If your PMU artist asked you to not get your brows wet at all, then go ahead and invest in a good quality plastic sun visor or a plastic peaked cap. These two will divert the water away from your face, but still, allow you to wash your hair and take a leisurely shower.
-
Goggles
Don’t want to spend any more of your hard-earned money on your brows? Don’t worry. You can always grab your swimming goggles, strap them on, and take a bath. It will also allow you to wash your face and your hair without the water touching your freshly microbladed brows. If you have a snorkeling mask, that works too!
-
Barrier Cream
If you want to provide extra protection to your brows on top of goggles/sun visors then you can use a barrier cream. Ask your makeup artist beforehand if that would be okay. Barrier cream allows the water to run off your skin instead of penetrating it, almost like waterproofing it.
What Happens If You Get Water in Your Freshly Microbladed Eyebrows
If water gets on your brows while it is still healing and scabbing, it will lift off the pigment. It will prevent the retention of the pigment and the results would be faded brows. When you are washing your face, instead of splashing water, use the wiping motion. Put your hands under the water, and wipe your face starting from under your eyes and below. You can use a wet cloth to wipe your forehead.
